Past President Interview: Gilly Cutts (2004-05) on why she loved being President of London Corinthians

November 27, 2012

Gilly Cutts, Corinthian legend, a great believer in keeping the energy up.

Q: During your time as President did anything memorable take place during meetings or otherwise?
A: The first night of my Presidency was definitely the most memorable with past presidents filling all the roles apart from the speeches. It was a powerful night of experienced Toastmasters showing style and pizzazz!

Q: Will you describe the best speech you heard during your Presidency? What made it so good?
A: The speech, or should I say speeches I remember most, were five given by Kim Horner in order for the club to achieve an extra DCP point for the highest award of the year! She crafted several speeches over one weekend and delivered them with great professionalism over the following months. Now that’s what I call commitment!

Q: What made you decide to become President? How did it come about?
A:After much arm twisting I finally said yes and by the end of that year I wondered what my resistance had been about as I loved every minute of my year as the Proudest President of Corinthians!

Q: What have you taken away with you from your time as President? Did you achieve your goals?
A:My continuing goal both then and now is to create a mentor for every member to support them in their growth as well as create friendships within the club. Apart from that, running a few quirky programmes like a spooky Halloween meeting and and an even more challenging back-to front-meeting, also added to the fun I had as President!

Q: Is there any advice you would give to future Presidents with the benefit of hindsight?

A: The best advice I can offer is to show your interest and appreciation for all of your members by speaking with them directly rather than by email or text. Also, keep the energy up, up, up at every meeting!
